How They Met:

7/3/2014

We met on the day before fourth of July, at my town’s annual fireworks. My fiancé is a member of the volunteer fire department. He was standing with his department, so some mutual friends and I went up to him to say hi. I was introduced to him, and I knew that we could have something special.

Their Love Story:

After about 6 months of flirting and homework sessions (as high schoolers do), he asked me to junior prom. At junior prom, during the slow dance, he asked me to be his girlfriend. Little did I know that it would lead to a lifetime of love, and that he would be the person who stood by me and loved me unconditionally.

Their Personal or Family Wellness Impact Statement:

About three years ago, 1 year into our college experience, I became very ill. I was having serious digestive issues that put me in and out of the hospital. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and gastritis. Through the hospital visits, the doctors’ appointments, and the many days of pain and suffering, my fiancé stood by me. Even as I attempt the most restrictive holistic diets, he supports me and does what he can to accommodate me and make me feel comfortable. The way he has loved me through illness and hardship at such a young age showed his maturity, his unconditional love, and patience like nothing I’ve ever witnessed before.

Their Plan to Pay-It-Forward:

My fiancé is a volunteer firefighter and is extremely involved in our community. He is constantly serving others and putting his life at risk to help those in need.

I am attending graduate school to study speech language pathology. I have been volunteering in hospitals, aphasia centers, and tutoring children in underprivileged areas (as I just received my teaching certificate).

We both love to give back to our community and show others the wonders that kindness can do for all.
